So I haven’t written a blog post in what feels like a trillion years but I really wanted to share some exciting things with you! My little baby is now 9 months old and VERY mischievous much like her big sister. I have a new job working full time and I have moved house so things are very different since the last time I posted. The other thing I am excited to announce is that I am helping to launch my Aunts candle company. Without sounding too biased (which obviously I am), these candles are so luxurious and great value for money. Think of the scent pay off of a Jo Malone candle and White Company scents. If you like White Company winter scent then my Aunt’s Orange Spice candle is definitely up your street and for half the price. We are on Facebook and Instagram (@bridgepark_candles) so please give us a like and the site is launching Monday 21st November. In the meantime if anybody would like a candle then feel free to send me an email (address on about me page)! It feels so good to be writing again and I intend to write a few more posts that are a bit more personal and about my experiences of having a second baby. Hope you’re all having a great weekend!
When deciding my second polish to try out of the Doll House Collection, I thought maybe I’d try my least favourite colour so I could save the best until last. Unfortunately there was no least favourite so I just went for what took my fancy. Today’s was Sweet Pea. A lovely matte green that really draws attention to the nails. I will confess I applied this to my nails after 2 glasses of cheap red wine and having just done the washing up, so the pictures will not do this justice. But this was the colour that convinced me to buy the collection and it really justified that £18 that I spent. This looks good matte or glossy but I think its already a bright colour so why not make it stand out a bit more by wearing it matte. This is a brilliant colour for spring (as clichéd as that line is) and personally I think that it is a better version of Essie’s Mint Candy Apple.
So here it is, day one of the Ciaté Rundown! The first polish was literally the one that appealed to me most at that particular moment when I opened the box. I haven’t painted my nails in a good few weeks now to give them a break and I wanted to ease myself back into wearing nail polish before I went for the brightest one in the box so Doll Face seemed like the way to go. I’ll give you a perfect description of how I felt as I was putting this on. It reminded me of being at school, probably secondary school, and I’d just get bored and tip ex all my nails white and then continue to vandalize them by drawing on top with my biro penI can assure you my school memories were a lot more exciting than that, but this is honestly what it reminded me of. It looks like it will go chalky as you apply it but it dries lovely and smooth yet with a matte finish. One big tip, is that all of these polishes are very bright and garish, so be sure to make sure you nails are filed, clean and preferably cut down to a normal size (call me a Granny but I have no idea why these talons are in fashion at the moment) because trust me, it won’t look good otherwise. But I should give a big round of applause to Doll Face and a very warm welcome for joining my existing collection of Ciaté polishes.
For those people who read my blog or follow it (big thank you!), I just want to let you know I am still writing it but I am smack bang in the middle of exams at the moment! After I will be as free as a bird (for a couple of weeks anyway) and I can get back down to business. Even my make up has come to a halt and I’ve been spending time letting my nails breathe as they were so ridiculously yellow from the constant nail painting in December. To anyone else who has/ is going through the same thing at the moment, I feel your pain..
The January sales, otherwise known as the time that I bought the Elizabeth Arden Counter. I’ll be perfectly honest, I have always loved the January sales despite the many cat fights that I witness in Topshop and seeing poor Zara being turned into a Jumble Sale, but it is only recently that I realised they also do incredible sales on make up! This was very much taken advantage of in House of Fraser in my local town. The shopping experience was peaceful to say the least as there were no crowds so I let loose and grabbed everything I liked. I sometimes feel that Elizabeth Arden can go unappreciated particularly as it isn’t stocked in Selfridges, and I can assure you they have some amazing products. Here’s my list of Elizabeth Arden Favourites:
1) The Eight Hour Range.
With what started as a skin repair cream, turned into a cult product and now has a whole range of products, from facial moisturisers and hand creams to moisturising lipsticks. I recently found a brand new Eight hour lipstick in my coat pocket that I clearly forgot about last winter. I can’t even explain the joy that went through me!
2) The Eye and Lip Make Up Remover.
I’m waiting for this product to explode all over the internet. It’s an oil based eye makeup remover but it feels like water on your skin and barely leaves any grease around your eyes after. It dissolves eye make up in a second and feels so gentle. This has now topped my old Clarins favourite and Lancôme’s Bi-Facile.
3) The Amazing Gift Sets.
The gifts from Elizabeth Arden are absolute winners. My mum has been buying them for years which in turn I have been stealing for years (sorry mum). My latest gift set included 2 Lip glosses, 3 Lipsticks, 2 Lipliners, 2 Eyeliners, 1 Eyeshadow and Blusher Palette, a Highlighter, 3 Brushes and one bottle of Eye makeup remover all for £30. I love January Sales!
I don’t use this myself but I have heard great things about this. It’s supposed to be a revolutionary anti ageing range which my mum has fallen in love with. It’s made mum’s skin look lovely and dewy since she’s been using it and has left a noticeable difference.
For people who haven’t tried Elizabeth Arden, the brand is really worth exploring!
I’m afraid I have nothing to show you today as I got ‘Underwear’ which is a base coat and I think my nails deserve a rest from all the constant nail polish remover they’ve been exposed to, but I trust that it will be a very good base coat.
I thought this would be a good opportunity to say Merry Christmas to everyone and also spread some good will. We can honestly say that some point in our lives, particuarly at christmas we receive beauty products such as soap, make up or even perfume we will never even use. I have never done this myself but I have known people to just give the present away to someone else the following christmas which is always risky business. I have promised myself from now on, that any products I won’t use, as they may not suit me or my skin type, or simply not my taste will be donated to a charity that collects beauty products for women who are most in need of them. I know to some people that may not seem like a necessity but for women who may have lost their homes, left violent relationships or any circumstance that has left them vulnerable, then I can imagine a little box of luxuries would really put a smile on their face. Obviously I won’t just be donating christmas presents as I always get lovely presents off my friends and family, but I have products I know I won’t use again and would rather give them to someone who actually needs them. The charity I will be donating to is called Give and Make up which is based in London and fast becoming an established little charity. If you don’t fancy making up a box of goodies then why not just drop your products into a charity shop, as either way it will go towards a good cause.
Anyway Merry Christmas everyone and to those who haven’t started/finished their christmas shopping, I wish you the best of luck!
If you’re looking at the picture and thinking that’s the same polish as yesterday, don’t worry I thought the same thing when I opened the window on my calendar. I don’t know what possessed Ciaté to put two similar colours on consecutive days but luckily for them today’s colour was so nice I’ll forgive them. Today’s colour is called ‘Ferris Wheel’ and its a much more pale mint than yesterday. In fact I think I prefer it! It was a bit tricky to apply again but I’m going to put that down to me because I am pretty useless when it comes to painting my nails. Apart from that I have no complaints! It’s a paler, more icy colour which makes it more suitable for christmas and it looks a bit more sophisticated than Pepperminty. All I can advise is to make sure you have some time before painting your nails. It’s one of those one’s you just have to keep layering up so don’t go waving your hands about soon after. I’ll leave it there for today so Happy Friday 13th!
