I can write again!

To anyone who may still occasionally read my blog or to people who may have just happened to stumble upon my blog, thank you for continuing to visit my site. After a couple of years of working and studying, I now feel I am in a position to focus on The Language Of Beauty again and if I can, try to expand my blog even more. I have genuinely missed the buzz of writing blog posts and receiving comments but my final year of my degree took over which obviously took priority. Now I am working part time and waiting for baby number 2 to arrive (yes we’re having another baby!!), and I feel I can now take this on as a hobby again and invest more time into the site. I have years worth of make up, skincare and lifestyle to write about so please take a read if you fancy and let me know your thoughts. I will be posting again very shortly! Auf wiedersehen!

Summer make up routine

IMG_1961

Oh goodness, the time has come where I had to avoid hiding my face from the camera and show what I am actually doing with the thousands of beauty products that I hoard. I would like to state that I do not normally look as spaced out as I do in these photos, although I may act it sometimes and also I apologise for the lighting, I go back to work tomorrow so tonight was the only time I had to write this post and take photos! But here is a little insight into what I wear to work, or just out and about on a daily basis.

IMG_1987

1) Bourjois Happy light Luminous Primer

I work a good 11 hour shift, 5 days a week so I need something to hold my make up on throughout the day and give me a little glow. This stuff is Incredible!

2) Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in shade 52 (Yay I’ve gone a shade darker!)

Pretty standard this foundation. Gives me enough coverage not to look a wreck but lets my skin and freckles come through.

3) Estée Lauder Double wear Concealer

Normally I wear just my Lierac Dopticerne teinte, but I couldn’t find it while preparing for taking the pictures so I used my Estée Lauder concealer instead.

4) Nars Luster Blusher

I use this as a blusher, bronzer and highlighter and it works perfectly. The shimmer doesn’t show up too much so I can use it wear I fancy so cheeks, temples, chin etc..

5) MAC wedge

I just use this in the crease of my eye and underneath my bottom lashes to give definition.

6) MAC Teddy liner

I line my top and bottom lashes, to the half way point and smudge just to give a bit of smokiness.

7) Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara Volume

I LOVE this mascara. This is a tester size that I use but I plan to get the full size when it runs out.

8) MAC CB96 Frost

Don’t even ask about the name because I don’t understand why its called ‘CB96’ but this is my favourite lipstick ever. Its a shimmery orange and a tiny amount suits my colouring perfectly, I think!

Summer Evening Favourites

20140518-203430.jpg

For me, it is officially summer. I seem to be spending every waking hour at the beach and haven’t put on a cardigan, coat or jumper in a long while so for me that confirms that spring is now summer (where I am anyway). I love summer daytime but I do love the evenings too. You don’t have to put layers upon layers over your outfit that you probably spent ages deciding on and you always look a bit more full of life. This also means bright lipsticks and lighter perfumes can come out after having been stashed away for what can only feel like eternity. My summer evening duo consists of MAC Impassioned (don’t be fooled by writing on the bottom, its called IMPASSIONED not I’M PASSIONED as I embarrassingly said to the woman at the MAC counter) and Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess, the most summery perfume you can ever smell. It smells like a piña colada, my favourite cocktail in the world, so if anything is going to get me in the summery mood, it’s this. With these together, I feel like a woman pretty well put together and even on a particularly cold evening these would boost my mood instantly. As I’m feeling summery, I am putting together my summer make up routine at the moment which can only mean I have to take some selfies so watch this space if you want to see me looking completely out of my comfort zone! Whats your go to summer time make up?

Lierac dark circle corrector

20140514-123125.jpg

I have always suffered with problematic dark circles, which has ironically always cast a shadow over my make up routine. I have always had to avoid smoky eye’s and bold lips, as my dark circles have just made me look like a zombie. Although I have now gone a skin shade darker from the tanning here in france, my circles have also gone darker thanks to migraines, poor quality nights sleep and having consumed a large amount of french wine. After being told time and time again that I look exhausted, I decided to change my concealer from my beloved Estée Lauder Double wear creamy concealer (I still love you!) to something much stronger. This bought me to Lierac Diopticerne teinte. Its a strange french pharmacy concealer, which comes out like a mousse but honestly is the best concealer I have ever used. It’s not the best idea to apply it while its moussey (don’t think thats even a word!) so I just rub it on the back of my hand and knock the air out of it and then it applies really smoothly. There’s a coloured one which I bought or a white one which I presume you can go over with your normal concealer to get the colouring right. I thank the french pharmacy god’s for creating this and possibly changing my life for the better.

Kiehl’s beauty blemish balm

20140513-152624.jpg

After what has felt like forever, I am back! After having written my 2000 word assignment in french and getting settled at my new job and at our new house, I finally feel relaxed enough to get some pen onto paper and talk about my recent changes in my make up routine!
Obviously the last time I properly wrote about my make up routine was probably in the depths of winter in Germany, and now I have to talk about it on the other end of the spectrum as I am in depths of summer, in the south of France. Before moving here I obsessed over finding a good SPF and a tinted moisturiser for everyday wear. I was willing to pay a decent amount of money for this as well, contemplating a YSL BB cream for 30 odd quid and then the kiehl’s SPF for another £30. Until I found my kiehl’s beauty blemish balm for a meagre £20! Its basically a tinted sun tan lotion which oddly I love! It’s SPF 50 and goes on like a thick gooey lotion but blends amazingly leaving all my imperfections covered. It smells like a sun tan lotion which some people may hate but for me I love as it reminds me of lying on a beach slathered in factor 70 when I was much younger and had more sensitive skin. This has given me complete confidence that spending 6 months in the sun will not turn me into a leather bag and hopefully I can hold on to my youth for a while longer. I use this every day without fail and on really evil skin days, I just mix in a bit if this with foundation so that  I don’t miss out on the SPF protection. Whats your summer base?

A Very Late February Review

image

My blogging has really slowed down over the past couple of weeks which I can only apologise for (if anyone’s a regular reader that is!), but today I felt able to sit down and whack out a post. February was a bad month in the way of my skin and I had a constant crustacean on my face which I was sorry that people had to witness. This meant my make up routine was really taken back to basics and I opted for minimum coverage.

1) Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm.

I have been mixing one dollop of this with one small pump of foundation. It means then my foundation can then act as a tinted moisturiser ( I still can’t find a tinted moisturiser that is pale enough for my skin!), and has really given my skin a nice natural glow. Tip: This is always given away for free with magazines, both of my tubes of it were freebies!

2) Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter.

This has been so gentle on my skin during its time of constant need of hydration. I sometimes take it off using a wet cloth but to avoid irritation, I have mostly taken it off with water. It’s so amazing, that I am on my second tub of it now and trust me, it takes a lot for me to repurchase items.

3) Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette.

I have been using this everyday since I got it. The colours are so beautiful and on a day-to-day basis I have just been using the matte colours in my eye crease to give my eye’s a bit of definition. I might be one of few people to say that I prefer this to the other two palettes. (Apologies that I could not provide a photo, I am currently in England and the palette is in Germany, not sure how I am going to cope without it!)

4) George Orwell

Obviously this is not make up, but I cannot stop reading George Orwell books at the moment. He has the most wonderful writing style, and his books have quite a deep meaning but at the same time, are an easy read. The last book that I finished, Keeping the Aspidistra Flying, has really stayed with me and is possibly one of my favourite books ever. Coming up for air is my next read.

5) Peppermint Tea.

Yep, I’m on the peppermint tea bandwagon finally! I have really been feeling under the weather this winter, and I can’t drink cups upon cups of english tea a day like some people can but this is a perfect compromise. A couple of cups a day has really perked me up. Also I finally invested in some teapigs peppermint tea and oh my goodness. One more expensive habit to upkeep.

So there you have it, my favourites of february. Might seem a little boring, but lets face it, everyone is so exhausted by february, that I’m sure everyone has developed their own pick-me ups.  Hopefully March favourites will be a bit more interesting, as soon I will be discovering the make up scene in France.. Bank account, you better watch out!

Essie’s Bikini so Teeny

IMG_1624

I’m going to join in with every other beauty blogger and celebrate that spring is coming! This means bye bye dark toned clothes, nails and make up and hello pastels! My Valentines Day present off Harry was Essie’s ‘Bikini So Teeny’ which is a lovely periwinkle blue colour, which obviously I had to pick out myself and physically give to Harry to take to the till and then pretend I had no idea of it’s existence. I have heard mixed reviews about this, but overall I’m impressed. It’s been said that this polish is streaky? Personally I have no idea why people would think that. For the pastel colour that it is, it’s so pigmented and goes on so easily. I could have just applied one coat but I always do a second coat of polish to get it to last longer. However.. I do agree with the reviews stating that a top coat makes it go darker. I have no idea why this happens (anyone who knows please feel free to let me know) but in future I will steer clear of the top coat and just make sure I’ve got a couple of hours free to sit and relax, so my risk of smudge is reduced. Other than that though, this has made me feel so cheerful and summery and I’m so excited to whack out my spring jacket (probably won’t be for a while yet though!). The other colours that are part of the range are also incredible so I’m sure I’ll be spotted lingering around Douglas deciding what my next buy will be soon enough. What do you think of the new Essie collection? Yay or Nay?
