In all honesty, nail art has never really been my thing. Firstly, it’s too fiddly for my liking and secondly, my nails can chip within a day so it just seems pointless. However a bit of glitter has always been a hit with me and what better time to whack out the glitter than halloween! I decided to go green and went for my nars nail polish in shutter and top it off with ciatés party shoes (previously featured in the blog). The green and blue flecks of glitter have really brought the polish to life and also given it that halloweeny vibe. What’s on your nails this halloween?
I tried to save the best until last and I firmly believe that I made the right decision! This is the most spring like colour out of the collection and has given me a craving for some macarons (lucky I’m in France!). I’ll repeat what I’ve said about every other Ciaté polish that I have ever tried and say it applies well and dries quickly which is always a bonus.
Not to put a downer on any of my beloved nail polishes, but I have had one horrific side effect which I suspect is due to matte nail polishes. These have turned my nails so YELLOW. I am facing the on going dilemma of if I put polish over them then they are hidden away, but will then in turn, make them more yellow. I think after this polish I should just bite the bullet and not wear any nail polish for a couple of weeks. I will repeat that this is nothing personal against the Ciaté polishes, I think it is just down to the fact it is a matte polish so the nails can’t breathe as easily and stain a bit more than other polishes. So the moral of that story is.. wear a sturdy base coat!
This post comes a day late, as yesterday the move to France caught up with me and I must have slept a good 20 out of 24 hours in the past day but the show must go on!
I don’t know why but I seem to convince myself that I’m not into nudes and pinks when it comes to make up, and yet whenever I try a remotely girly colour, I find myself completely besotted. Baby Doll was a polish that was my least favourite to try out, but has impressed me the most. It’s beautiful with a matte finish and I think adding gloss to it might be overkill. I like it so much I will also be applying to it my toes later. However I apologise for how bad my nails look in this photo above. I painted my nails very quickly here and didn’t use a base coat which has resulted in a complete mess. But you can see the colour which is the main thing.
As for today’s post, today’s polish is Paper Doll. The name makes sense seen as its completely white. I’ve never tried white polish so this was a new experience for me. Honestly I thought it was lovely, but it’s not something that I am going to wear day in day out. This is probably something I would wear for a night out and would then come off the next day because if it chipped it would be so obvious and personally chipped nail polish makes me feel really scruffy.
When deciding my second polish to try out of the Doll House Collection, I thought maybe I’d try my least favourite colour so I could save the best until last. Unfortunately there was no least favourite so I just went for what took my fancy. Today’s was Sweet Pea. A lovely matte green that really draws attention to the nails. I will confess I applied this to my nails after 2 glasses of cheap red wine and having just done the washing up, so the pictures will not do this justice. But this was the colour that convinced me to buy the collection and it really justified that £18 that I spent. This looks good matte or glossy but I think its already a bright colour so why not make it stand out a bit more by wearing it matte. This is a brilliant colour for spring (as clichéd as that line is) and personally I think that it is a better version of Essie’s Mint Candy Apple.
So here it is, day one of the Ciaté Rundown! The first polish was literally the one that appealed to me most at that particular moment when I opened the box. I haven’t painted my nails in a good few weeks now to give them a break and I wanted to ease myself back into wearing nail polish before I went for the brightest one in the box so Doll Face seemed like the way to go. I’ll give you a perfect description of how I felt as I was putting this on. It reminded me of being at school, probably secondary school, and I’d just get bored and tip ex all my nails white and then continue to vandalize them by drawing on top with my biro penI can assure you my school memories were a lot more exciting than that, but this is honestly what it reminded me of. It looks like it will go chalky as you apply it but it dries lovely and smooth yet with a matte finish. One big tip, is that all of these polishes are very bright and garish, so be sure to make sure you nails are filed, clean and preferably cut down to a normal size (call me a Granny but I have no idea why these talons are in fashion at the moment) because trust me, it won’t look good otherwise. But I should give a big round of applause to Doll Face and a very warm welcome for joining my existing collection of Ciaté polishes.
I am ridiculously excited to announce that I am doing another Ciaté rundown! This one won’t cover a whole month like the last one, but will span over five days. Today is just a brief intro to what I will be reviewing. It’s called Doll’s House Collection and it’s part of the Ciaté Spring range. It consists of five matte pastel shades and forgive me but I will state the obvious and say that they are boxed up in a Dolls house hence the name of the collection. After having tried the first one already, I can safely say that they have not disappointed and are quick drying and easy to work with. I got mine from John Lewis for £18 but you can also get them from Selfridges and the Ciaté Website. Hope you will enjoy the next five days!
Some of you have probably thought my little phase of blogging had come to an end and I had got bored of up keeping a blog site. I can assure you this is not the case! It’s been a little hectic with moving house, writing a ridiculous assignment whilst trying to tame a clingy 18 month old baby, and then being on holiday in a place so remote that I don’t think they even knew what WIFi was. However now, I am hoping that I can really get back into blogging again. I have some exciting things to review from Kiehls, Lancôme and…CIATÉ! My all time favourite nail polish brand as some of you may know. But I thought it would be worth just clearing the air and filling people in on why the blogging has stopped. I have even provided photo evidence to prove it!
I would like to post about my 2013 favourites but I’ll be honest, I have only started wearing make up properly in the past year. I used to be ok with scraping foundation out of an empty bottle and putting on a bit of concealer and considering myself made up for the day. This was until I discovered Pixiwoo and their incredible make up tutorials and from that day onwards my life has been devoted to make up (and my daughter). Nevertheless I can still write about my favourite products of the year and what stood out to me.
1) Estée Lauder Double Wear Light
This foundation saw me through the summer. I know you may think this might be a bit heavy for summer months, but during that time I was working the most antisocial hours (getting up at 2 in the morning monday to friday!) as well as having a screaming 6 month old baby. This foundation covered up all my tell tale signs of exhaustion and lasted all day. I can’t thank you enough Estée Lauder.
2) MAC Studio Finish Concealer
As shown above, this covered up my ridiculous under eye circles that I got during my early morning shifts. This concealer will always be a part of my make up routine.
3) Urban Decay Naked Palette
I got myself Naked One in the summer and I have fallen head over heals for it. Half baked is my go to eyeshadow now when I’m in a rush. If put on lightly, it leaves a natural golden tint to the eyelids.
4) YSL Babydoll Mascara
As soon as I heard of it’s existence I was off to the local House of Fraser picking one up for myself. Mascara isn’t something I focus my attention on and I have been known to put on a full face of make up and forget to put on my mascara but when I do remember, this is the one I go for.
5) MAC’S Plumful
I only got this at the start of December but I wear it everyday and feel completely comfortable about how it looks, e.g not on my teeth and halfway across my face. When I went back to England for 2 weeks, Plumful was one of the lucky two lipsticks that came with me.
6) Body Shop Honey Bronzer
This is the only bronzer I can actually use due to my pale skin. I have already done a post on it which explains it all here. It was so good to hear that one of my best friends was so inspired by the post, she got herself one and loves it as well. You’re welcome Emma 🙂
7) MAC’s Adored
Sadly this was a limited edition blusher part of MAC’s summer collection but I loved it so much I got two and haven’t even made a dent in my first one yet after using it for 7 months.
8) Pixi Glow Tonic
It took me months to track one down but when I did, it was delivered within 24 hours and became one of the skincare loves of my life. I’m running low on the stuff now so I’m obviously dreading the hunt for my next bottle!
9) All Ciaté Nail Polishes
I think my last month worth of posts will summarise my great love for these. I’m currently sporting Amazing Gracie which is possibly my favourite of the whole calendar.
10) Dior Golden Winter Perle D’or illuminating Powder
I am not exactly the chicest of women and have a tendency to look a bit scruffy but this compact makes me feel like a sophisticated woman who has got her life completely sorted, until it goes back in my bag and then I go back to looking my scruffy old self.
There it is! Considering I have only liked make up for a year there is a ridiculous amount of make up on this list and in my room and it’s safe to say some bank accounts are feeling pretty exhausted right now. I have vowed to Harry that make up spending is coming to a dramatic halt due to our up and coming move to France and our ski holiday so I’m sure all of this should keep me going for a long time now.
I would also like to point out that there are many other products that I have also loved, such as my Bobbi Brown Corrector, different Foundations and many, many MAC Lipsticks but I have simply gone by what I have used the most. Here’s to another year of make up!
For those of you who have been reading my posts on Ciaté Mini Mani Month, you may have noticed that I never quite managed to post about polish number 24. I will be perfectly honest and tell you that I did write a post and paint my nails but I never got round to taking pictures. I then noticed that my nails are actually in terrible condition now from all the painting and taking off of nail polish and they have turned a horrible yellow making me look like I’ve got smokers fingers so I will finish mini mani month but only when my nails seem up to it!
I’ve also had a week off from studying and haven’t spoken a single word of German which has been so relaxing! Sometimes you only realise you’ve run out of steam when you actually rest and I can tell you, I needed a rest. The blog will be starting up again properly in the new year and I’m hoping it will start coming into it’s own. More lifestyle will be included so cookery, travel, and health and maybe even a few book reviews (my New Years resolution is to always have a book on the go) and my youtube channel should hopefully be up and running as well. But to those who have read my blog so far, thank you so much, it’s been a brilliant first couple of months and I can’t wait to keep writing in 2014. Happy New Year Everyone!
Please, Please, Please do not think I have been lazy with my blog lately, but I’m sure many of you can agree that the final few days before christmas are possibly the most hectic and chaotic days you will ever experience. Friday was basically taken up with a whole day of travelling back from Germany to England, which was so manic there were literally people crying on the floor of the train (myself included). This weekend has been spent celebrating my Mum’s 50th birthday! It’s been brilliant fun and I even got to go on a spa day which has left me feeling so relaxed before the big day. I’ll also be honest that in all of that time my upkeep of my nails has come to a halt and I have one hand covered in friday’s polish and one hand covered in saturday’s, as I intended to write this post days ago. I’ll cram everything into one today though, as I’m sure most people don’t have the time to go reading individual posts anyway!
Day 20: Ivory Queen.
Ciaté have got every nail polish right so far minus the nail beads but they really aren’t very good with timing. On day 18 I got ‘Amazing Gracie’ which was the most gorgeous pale pink but then 2 days later I got basically the same colour but just a bit more “ivory”. Nevertheless I still love it and it’s another nude to add to my collection. This calendar has really helped my to discover polishes I would never normally wear.
Day 21: Confetti.
Glitter polishes tend to be hit and miss. Some barely show up and some are just ridiculously gritty and make my teeth grind everytime I grate my nails off something. Confetti is niether of those and went over Ivory Queen like a dream. The finish was so lovely and was a surprise competitor for my favourite glitter polish so far!
Day 22: Christmas Tree Caviar.
Ahh Ohh they did it again. They gave me bloody nail beads. These are little more christmassy which made me willing to try them but I think these will be going off to charity. It’s a shame because even if I did like nail beads I couldn’t wear them anyway due to the mess they leave. Not for the neat freaks!
Day 23: Locket.
Well we’re all thinking it so I might as well say it. This looks shit. But it’s really not! It’s a glitter polish with silver pigment in it which I didn’t realise it had so I painted it over “boudoir” thinking it would look cool and christmassy, when in fact I was completely wrong and made a complete mess. As a polish on its own though it’s very unique and very pretty!
