I know I said that I wouldn’t post until my exams were over, but I felt today’s post was pretty relevant for most of the people who live in the northern hemisphere. As the temperatures are plummeting, I, like everyone else, have been struck by the common cold. The symptoms themselves are irritating but it’s the disgusting feeling of dehydration, the sore nose and the dry throat that bother me. Here’s a couple of things that I’m using to help me quickly recover from the beast that is the common cold.
1) Clarins Blue Orchid Face Oil.
This has stopped my face from looking like a handbag.
2) Eight hour cream.
Pretty self explanatory. Just keep slapping it on your nostrils.
3) Clarins Beauty Flash Balm.
I’m not really leaving the house at the moment as Isla is pretty ill herself and I have too much revision to do but when I have to go out, I just put this on under my make up.
4) Lush Popcorn Lip scrub.
Got to be honest this product is pretty crap as it leaves my lips peeling more than they did in the first place, but if I’m out and find myself flaking whilst mid conversation with someone, it’s an easy quick fix.
5) L’Occitane Hand cream.
As my mum says, Catch it, Bin it, Kill it. So basically every time I touch my nose or cough into my hand, I’m washing them to kill the germs. Having my hand cream means I shouldn’t dry out my hands too much and I always feel fancy with my l’Occitane hand cream.
The January sales, otherwise known as the time that I bought the Elizabeth Arden Counter. I’ll be perfectly honest, I have always loved the January sales despite the many cat fights that I witness in Topshop and seeing poor Zara being turned into a Jumble Sale, but it is only recently that I realised they also do incredible sales on make up! This was very much taken advantage of in House of Fraser in my local town. The shopping experience was peaceful to say the least as there were no crowds so I let loose and grabbed everything I liked. I sometimes feel that Elizabeth Arden can go unappreciated particularly as it isn’t stocked in Selfridges, and I can assure you they have some amazing products. Here’s my list of Elizabeth Arden Favourites:
1) The Eight Hour Range.
With what started as a skin repair cream, turned into a cult product and now has a whole range of products, from facial moisturisers and hand creams to moisturising lipsticks. I recently found a brand new Eight hour lipstick in my coat pocket that I clearly forgot about last winter. I can’t even explain the joy that went through me!
2) The Eye and Lip Make Up Remover.
I’m waiting for this product to explode all over the internet. It’s an oil based eye makeup remover but it feels like water on your skin and barely leaves any grease around your eyes after. It dissolves eye make up in a second and feels so gentle. This has now topped my old Clarins favourite and Lancôme’s Bi-Facile.
3) The Amazing Gift Sets.
The gifts from Elizabeth Arden are absolute winners. My mum has been buying them for years which in turn I have been stealing for years (sorry mum). My latest gift set included 2 Lip glosses, 3 Lipsticks, 2 Lipliners, 2 Eyeliners, 1 Eyeshadow and Blusher Palette, a Highlighter, 3 Brushes and one bottle of Eye makeup remover all for £30. I love January Sales!
I don’t use this myself but I have heard great things about this. It’s supposed to be a revolutionary anti ageing range which my mum has fallen in love with. It’s made mum’s skin look lovely and dewy since she’s been using it and has left a noticeable difference.
For people who haven’t tried Elizabeth Arden, the brand is really worth exploring!
In Germany literally everything is shut on a sunday. Apart from some bars and restaurants there is nothing to do here one day a week. I am perfectly fine with that though because it means a family day in, watching a film with a roast dinner. It also means I feel no obligation to put on any make up and can give my skin the day off. I’ve started getting into the habit of taking off my make up as soon as I walk in through the door and I can’t even begin to explain how this has worked wonders on my skin. I know that a whole day without make up will really have its benefits. Making the most of my day without make up, I like to make sure my skin is feeling nourished and ready for the long week ahead. I’ve recently discovered the benefits of using primers as face masks. My particular favourite is Clarins Beauty Flash Balm which you can just apply a thick layer and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. I’ve left mine on for the whole day and my skin looks ten times better. I also like to make sure my lips are pampered by keeping them smothered in Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream so they’re ready to face the cold.
Another thing I like to do is make sure my nails are nice and tidy for the week. Todays nail polish is YSL Gris Underground. I’m afraid I can’t provide a URL for that as it seems to be sold out everywhere but keep an eye out for it at the YSL counters!
As said in my previous A/W 13 Colours post, I have been buying lipstick as well as nail varnish to make my appearance a bit more festive. It was a sad day putting aside my bright colours and bright lipsticks, but when one door closes another one opens, so here’s to seasonal lipsticks!
Now I would have loved to have actually shown you what these actually look like on my lips, but due to being under the weather, I didn’t think it was fair to subject anyone to my unkept appearance right now. So a piece of paper and my scruffy handwriting will just have to do. I won’t go into detail, but you can probably see that they are all very bold colours. The two YSL colours and the Mac New York Apple, I simply just dab on my lips and blend. As for the other two, I go all out and slap it on like wall paint. The swatch of New York Apple really hasn’t done it any justice as this is one of my favourite lipsticks at the moment. It’s a frost lipstick, which everybody seems to hate for some reason, but they are actually my favourite kind of MAC lipsticks. It has a lovely purple tone but it also has gold shimmery tones in it as well, making it perfect for this time of year. As you can see I have also got Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Lip Protectant in my range, and that is purely because it is essential for me to wear it underneath all of these lipsticks otherwise my lips will just fall off. So remember people.. Stay moisturised!
