I am really excited to be flying back to England this weekend to see my family and have a relaxed few days at home but I have a slight problem. I am only taking hand luggage with me on the way there, as I am travelling alone with the baby this time and would prefer not to have bags upon bags to carry. This means I have to really shrink down my make up collection. So what’s coming with me?
I’ve gone for my YSL Youth Liberator Serum Foundation. This is my new favourite foundation and it wouldn’t feel right not taking it away with me. My concealer is my Estée Lauder Double Wear stay-in-place high cover concealer which is also one of the most recent ground breaking discoveries. For blusher I am taking home Illamasqua Beg which is a deep red/purple colour and needs to be used sparingly. For eyeshadow I am taking home two MAC eyeshadows, All that glitters for the lid and Wedge for the crease. Mac Teddy Kohl eyeliner is also coming with me and I am really getting into wearing brown instead of black eyeliner again. Laura Mercier long lash Mascara has also earned a place in the capsule make up bag along with my trusty Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers, they make quite a pair together. Obviously after that I am taking my Body Shop Honey Bronzer as there is no alternative for that, and two of the Nars Lip pencils: Biscayne Park and Dolce Vita.
I am very confident that my choices will more than see me through the next four days and if not, then there’s always a Selfridges in Birmingham!
I am a devoted follower of Lisa Eldridge and her work as she always goes for a variety of products in her tutorials and uses them beautifully. In her most recent video click here was based on old Hollywood and vintage golds, which is perfect for this time of year and obviously made me want to go out anf buy the products she used. My particular favourite was the Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadow, which looked like a fine, powder like, bright, gold glitter. I was willing to part with my money, (although Harry wasn’t so enthusiastic) but luckily a tweet from Lisa revealed that Essence Metal Glam is a dupe! It has the exact same consistency as the Bobbi Brown Shadow although it may be a little bit more white than gold but it applies so sheer that you can barely tell the difference.
The colour I got was 07 Golden Up! and I also treated myself to 05 Chocolate Jewellery which is a brown eyeshadow with flecks of green and gold glitter. These came in at €2.45 each so it’s most likely I will be returning for more. Essence is starting to make it’s way over to the UK but very slowly otherwise its available here.
I recently received a late birthday present from my friends from university which consisted of the Naked Urban Decay Basics palette and MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick. Safe to say I was over the moon. The basics palette was intriguing to say the least as I had no idea how to use the thing! After a few little trials and errors, I think I’ve finally cracked how to use it. Heres a little description on how I do my eye make up, using all of the colours except one!
So, First I have to apologise for the poor quality of pictures, I am sad to say my camera got lost during the move over to Germany so until I find it or buy another one, my ipad camera will have to suffice. Also I apologise for this first picture where you can see the baby climbing up her pram.
First I went over the eyelid using the colour W.O.S. just to neutralise the red and blue tones I’ve got on my eyelid. I then used Venus to highlight my brow bone and I also dabbed it in the corner of my eye.
I then went over the eyelid with Naked 2 which I am presuming is also part of the Naked 2 palette.
I then put the colour Faint into the crease of my eye and blended it out using my MAC 224 brush. I also ran it along my bottom lash line to create a more smokey effect. To finish it all off I put a discreet line of Crave on my upper lash line and slapped on some mascara!
So this is the final look! While I understand the make up is very minimal (or looks it anyway), this is the general look I tend to go for on a day to day basis. I hope you like it and please comment on this post if you have other ways that you have used the Naked Urban Decay Basics palette.
