Summer make up routine

IMG_1961

Oh goodness, the time has come where I had to avoid hiding my face from the camera and show what I am actually doing with the thousands of beauty products that I hoard. I would like to state that I do not normally look as spaced out as I do in these photos, although I may act it sometimes and also I apologise for the lighting, I go back to work tomorrow so tonight was the only time I had to write this post and take photos! But here is a little insight into what I wear to work, or just out and about on a daily basis.

IMG_1987

1) Bourjois Happy light Luminous Primer

I work a good 11 hour shift, 5 days a week so I need something to hold my make up on throughout the day and give me a little glow. This stuff is Incredible!

2) Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in shade 52 (Yay I’ve gone a shade darker!)

Pretty standard this foundation. Gives me enough coverage not to look a wreck but lets my skin and freckles come through.

3) Estée Lauder Double wear Concealer

Normally I wear just my Lierac Dopticerne teinte, but I couldn’t find it while preparing for taking the pictures so I used my Estée Lauder concealer instead.

4) Nars Luster Blusher

I use this as a blusher, bronzer and highlighter and it works perfectly. The shimmer doesn’t show up too much so I can use it wear I fancy so cheeks, temples, chin etc..

5) MAC wedge

I just use this in the crease of my eye and underneath my bottom lashes to give definition.

6) MAC Teddy liner

I line my top and bottom lashes, to the half way point and smudge just to give a bit of smokiness.

7) Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara Volume

I LOVE this mascara. This is a tester size that I use but I plan to get the full size when it runs out.

8) MAC CB96 Frost

Don’t even ask about the name because I don’t understand why its called ‘CB96’ but this is my favourite lipstick ever. Its a shimmery orange and a tiny amount suits my colouring perfectly, I think!

Summer Evening Favourites

20140518-203430.jpg

For me, it is officially summer. I seem to be spending every waking hour at the beach and haven’t put on a cardigan, coat or jumper in a long while so for me that confirms that spring is now summer (where I am anyway). I love summer daytime but I do love the evenings too. You don’t have to put layers upon layers over your outfit that you probably spent ages deciding on and you always look a bit more full of life. This also means bright lipsticks and lighter perfumes can come out after having been stashed away for what can only feel like eternity. My summer evening duo consists of MAC Impassioned (don’t be fooled by writing on the bottom, its called IMPASSIONED not I’M PASSIONED as I embarrassingly said to the woman at the MAC counter) and Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess, the most summery perfume you can ever smell. It smells like a piña colada, my favourite cocktail in the world, so if anything is going to get me in the summery mood, it’s this. With these together, I feel like a woman pretty well put together and even on a particularly cold evening these would boost my mood instantly. As I’m feeling summery, I am putting together my summer make up routine at the moment which can only mean I have to take some selfies so watch this space if you want to see me looking completely out of my comfort zone! Whats your go to summer time make up?

Reacquainted with an old flame.

When I first realised that I did in fact like make up and beauty products, there were many things that caught my eye. It was like being new on the dating scene, I had no idea what I was looking for or how to set about finding it. It was through watching Pixiwoo’s youtube videos that I developed a little crush, and it was on MAC Face and Body. I’ll be honest, it was the packaging that drew me in, as shallow as that may sound and after a couple of months of debating and countless visits to the MAC counter, I decided to take a leap of faith, and commit myself to MAC Face and Body. Looking back, I didn’t really appreciate it, I loved it but my heart wasn’t in it and over time, the love diminished.

As mentioned in my previous post, I am really trying to cut down on my make up and coverage which left me with a small problem as most of my foundations are high coverage. So I went crawling back to MAC Face and Body with my tail between my legs, and it’s safe to say I am completely in love again. Having more experience with make up now, I have really learned to appreciate the control you can have with this foundation. One layer leaves you with the most natural finish, so much so, my freckles actually looked more apparent but if I wanted I could just keep adding more and more until I get the coverage I want. It really is the dreamboat of foundations.

Make up for a long weekend.

I am really excited to be flying back to England this weekend to see my family and have a relaxed few days at home but I have a slight problem. I am only taking hand luggage with me on the way there, as I am travelling alone with the baby this time and would prefer not to have bags upon bags to carry. This means I have to really shrink down my make up collection. So what’s coming with me?

image

I’ve gone for my YSL Youth Liberator Serum Foundation. This is my new favourite foundation and it wouldn’t feel right not taking it away with me. My concealer is my Estée Lauder Double Wear stay-in-place high cover concealer which is also one of the most recent ground breaking discoveries. For blusher I am taking home Illamasqua Beg which is a deep red/purple colour and needs to be used sparingly. For eyeshadow I am taking home two MAC eyeshadows, All that glitters for the lid and Wedge for the crease. Mac Teddy Kohl eyeliner is also coming with me and I am really getting into wearing brown instead of black eyeliner again. Laura Mercier long lash Mascara has also earned a place in the capsule make up bag along with my trusty Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers, they make quite a pair together. Obviously after that I am taking my Body Shop Honey Bronzer as there is no alternative for that, and two of the Nars Lip pencils: Biscayne Park and Dolce Vita.

I am very confident that my choices will more than see me through the next four days and if not, then there’s always a Selfridges in Birmingham!

2013.. The year I discovered Make up.

I would like to post about my 2013 favourites but I’ll be honest, I have only started wearing make up properly in the past year. I used to be ok with scraping foundation out of an empty bottle and putting on a bit of concealer and considering myself made up for the day. This was until I discovered Pixiwoo and their incredible make up tutorials and from that day onwards my life has been devoted to make up (and my daughter). Nevertheless I can still write about my favourite products of the year and what stood out to me.

1) Estée Lauder Double Wear Light

image

This foundation saw me through the summer. I know you may think this might be a bit heavy for summer months, but during that time I was working the most antisocial hours (getting up at 2 in the morning monday to friday!) as well as having a screaming 6 month old baby. This foundation covered up all my tell tale signs of exhaustion and lasted all day. I can’t thank you enough Estée Lauder.

2) MAC Studio Finish Concealer

image

As shown above, this covered up my ridiculous under eye circles that I got during my early morning shifts. This concealer will always be a part of my make up routine.

3) Urban Decay Naked Palette

image

I got myself Naked One in the summer and I have fallen head over heals for it. Half baked is my go to eyeshadow now when I’m in a rush. If put on lightly, it leaves a natural golden tint to the eyelids.

4) YSL Babydoll Mascara

image

As soon as I heard of it’s existence I was off to the local House of Fraser picking one up for myself. Mascara isn’t something I focus my attention on and I have been known to put on a full face of make up and forget to put on my mascara but when I do remember, this is the one I go for.

5) MAC’S Plumful

image

I only got this at the start of December but I wear it everyday and feel completely comfortable about how it looks, e.g not on my teeth and halfway across my face. When I went back to England for 2 weeks, Plumful was one of the lucky two lipsticks that came with me.

6) Body Shop Honey Bronzer

image

This is the only bronzer I can actually use due to my pale skin. I have already done a post on it which explains it all here. It was so good to hear that one of my best friends was so inspired by the post, she got herself one and loves it as well. You’re welcome Emma 🙂

7) MAC’s Adored

image

Sadly this was a limited edition blusher part of MAC’s summer collection but I loved it so much I got two and haven’t even made a dent in my first one yet after using it for 7 months.

8) Pixi Glow Tonic

image

It took me months to track one down but when I did, it was delivered within 24 hours and became one of the skincare loves of my life. I’m running low on the stuff now so I’m obviously dreading the hunt for my next bottle!

9) All Ciaté Nail Polishes

image

I think my last month worth of posts will summarise my great love for these. I’m currently sporting Amazing Gracie which is possibly my favourite of the whole calendar.

10) Dior Golden Winter Perle D’or illuminating Powder

image

I am not exactly the chicest of women and have a tendency to look a bit scruffy but this compact makes me feel like a sophisticated woman who has got her life completely sorted, until it goes back in my bag and then I go back to looking my scruffy old self.

There it is! Considering I have only liked make up for a year there is a ridiculous amount of make up on this list and in my room and it’s safe to say some bank accounts are feeling pretty exhausted right now. I have vowed to Harry that make up spending is coming to a dramatic halt due to our up and coming move to France and our ski holiday so I’m sure all of this should keep me going for a long time now.

I would also like to point out that there are many other products that I have also loved, such as my Bobbi Brown Corrector, different Foundations and many, many MAC Lipsticks but I have simply gone by what I have used the most. Here’s to another year of make up!

Day 15 of Ciaté Mini Mani Month

image

Pink is always a nail polish colour that I think looks nice but it’s never my first choice to buy. I’ll always go for blues, or greens or any other bright colour. I am actually really pleased I’ve got so many red and pinks in this calendar as they do make a statement and stand out and it’s meant I’ve been able to experiment with colours and what suits me. Today’s polish ‘Play date’ was an instant winner as it reminds me of my favourite MAC Lipstick ‘Impassioned’. It has a redness to it but I can still spot the hot pink in it making it quite an unusual colour. As sad as I was to take yesterday’s nail varnish off, this one has really helped to ease the pain. It was easy to apply and I could have left it at one coat but I always do 2 coats no matter what colour. I’ve topped it off with ‘Speed Coat’ and now I’ve got a lovely set of shiny nails. I’ve put on my fancy ring that my Aunt gave to me before I left England just to make myself feel that extra bit special. Might sound like a silly thing to do but it’s always nice to feel good about yourself on a christmassy sunday.

Day to Night: MAC Plumful and Mac Date Night

image

I recently had the pleasure of having my mum come to stay with me and whenever she comes to stop we prioritise coffee and lipstick time. Last time she came it was MAC New York Apple that got added to my collection but I have always had my eye on Plumful. This time I decided to give a Plumful lipstick a loving home and with it I also got treated to a MAC DazzleGlass called Date Night. Both lipstick and lipgloss go well together which gave me an idea for this post. People be prepared for some terrible selfies…

Plumful is an amazing lipstick for everyday wear, the only way to describe it is that it’s almost like a natural lip skin tone but its also a pink and purple berry colour (I am aware that’s a terrible description) but that is honestly how I think of it. It’s daring enough to stand out but also discreet. But with the festive season here and lots of parties Date Night is perfect. People have had a lot of hatred towards lip glosses recently but I think they need to be given a chance. Date Night is so special it’s even bought me back over to the dark side. It’s got a berry tint to it and lots and lots of glitter. The glitter only shows in strong lighting which I actually think is a massive perk. These two are perfect for people who literally need to go from day to night very quickly and for people who like to play it safe with their lipsticks. Just a coat of gloss over plumful and you have lovely festive make up. What lipsticks are you wearing this christmas?

What’s in my make up bag?… The Concealers

imageI have always suffered with dark circles under my eyes, as it runs through our family. While my friends say that they have never noticed them, that is purely because I have slapped on some much concealer, and they would need 20/20 vision to see whats underneath all that make up. It is an actual curse having dark circles, comments such as, “you look tired Sarah” and “baby keeping you up?” have always grated on me,  but since the discovery of Bobbi Brown Corrector those comments are a thing of the past. Everybody will know this anyway but one of my most important life lessons for me was that pink tones cover dark circles and yellow tones cover redness. I have been a changed woman since.

image

I start my concealer routine buy putting on my Benefit primer, Stay Don’t Stray, but that’s only if I look particularly tired or if I have a blemish I need to cover. I’ll then dab some corrector under my eyes just on the dark circles, and cover it over with any yellow toned concealer I fancy. My favourite yellow toned concealer is MAC Studio Fix concealer in NW20, after that it’s Estée Lauder Double Wear. The Collections concealer, Lasting Perfection, is perfect for spots, as I can layer it up and it blends seamlessly leaving no tell tale signs. So for anyone out there who has surrendered to a life of looking exhausted then I hope this has helped. Trust me if I can cover my dark circles, anyone can.

A/W 13 Colours: Part 2

ImageAs said in my previous A/W 13 Colours post, I have been buying lipstick as well as nail varnish to make my appearance a bit more festive. It was a sad day putting aside my bright colours and bright lipsticks, but when one door closes another one opens, so here’s to seasonal lipsticks!

Image

Now I would have loved to have actually shown you what these actually look like on my lips, but due to being under the weather, I didn’t think it was fair to subject anyone to my unkept appearance right now. So a piece of paper and my scruffy handwriting will just have to do. I won’t go into detail, but you can probably see that they are all very bold colours. The two YSL colours and the Mac New York Apple, I simply just dab on my lips and blend. As for the other two, I go all out and slap it on like wall paint. The swatch of New York Apple really hasn’t done it any justice as this is one of my favourite lipsticks at the moment. It’s a frost lipstick, which everybody seems to hate for some reason, but they are actually my favourite kind of MAC lipsticks. It has a lovely purple tone but it also has gold shimmery tones in it as well, making it perfect for this time of year. As you can see I have also got Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Lip Protectant in my range, and that is purely because it is essential for me to wear it underneath all of these lipsticks otherwise my lips will just fall off. So remember people.. Stay moisturised!
