Halloween themed nails!

Image

In all honesty, nail art has never really been my thing. Firstly, it’s too fiddly for my liking and secondly, my nails can chip within a day so it just seems pointless. However a bit of glitter has always been a hit with me and what better time to whack out the glitter than halloween! I decided to go green and went for my nars nail polish in shutter and top it off with ciatés party shoes (previously featured in the blog). The green and blue flecks of glitter have really brought the polish to life and also given it that halloweeny vibe. What’s on your nails this halloween?

Ciaté Poppet

I tried to save the best until last and I firmly believe that I made the right decision! This is the most spring like colour out of the collection and has given me a craving for some macarons (lucky I’m in France!). I’ll repeat what I’ve said about every other Ciaté polish that I have ever tried and say it applies well and dries quickly which is always a bonus.

Not to put a downer on any of my beloved nail polishes, but I have had one horrific side effect which I suspect is due to matte nail polishes. These have turned my nails so YELLOW. I am facing the on going dilemma of if I put polish over them then they are hidden away, but will then in turn, make them more yellow. I think after this polish I should just bite the bullet and not wear any nail polish for a couple of weeks. I will repeat that this is nothing personal against the Ciaté polishes, I think it is just down to the fact it is a matte polish so the nails can’t breathe as easily and stain a bit more than other polishes. So the moral of that story is.. wear a sturdy base coat!

Ciaté Baby Doll and Paper Doll

This post comes a day late, as yesterday the move to France caught up with me and I must have slept a good 20 out of 24 hours in the past day but the show must go on!

IMG_1839

I don’t know why but I seem to convince myself that I’m not into nudes and pinks when it comes to make up, and yet whenever I try a remotely girly colour, I find myself completely besotted. Baby Doll was a polish that was my least favourite to try out, but has impressed me the most. It’s beautiful with a matte finish and I think adding gloss to it might be overkill. I like it so much I will also be applying to it my toes later. However I apologise for how bad my nails look in this photo above. I painted my nails very quickly here and didn’t use a base coat which has resulted in a complete mess. But you can see the colour which is the main thing.

As for today’s post, today’s polish is Paper Doll. The name makes sense seen as its completely white. I’ve never tried white polish so this was a new experience for me. Honestly I thought it was lovely, but it’s not something that I am going to wear day in day out. This is probably something I would wear for a night out and would then come off the next day because if it chipped it would be so obvious and personally chipped nail polish makes me feel really scruffy.

Ciaté Sweet Pea

When deciding my second polish to try out of the Doll House Collection, I thought maybe I’d try my least favourite colour so I could save the best until last. Unfortunately there was no least favourite so I just went for what took my fancy. Today’s was Sweet Pea. A lovely matte green that really draws attention to the nails. I will confess I applied this to my nails after 2 glasses of cheap red wine and having just done the washing up, so the pictures will not do this justice. But this was the colour that convinced me to buy the collection and it really justified that £18 that I spent. This looks good matte or glossy but I think its already a bright colour so why not make it stand out a bit more by wearing it matte. This is a brilliant colour for spring (as clichéd as that line is) and personally I think that it is a better version of Essie’s Mint Candy Apple.

Ciaté Doll Face

So here it is, day one of the Ciaté Rundown! The first polish was literally the one that appealed to me most at that particular moment when I opened the box. I haven’t painted my nails in a good few weeks now to give them a break and I wanted to ease myself back into wearing nail polish before I went for the brightest one in the box so Doll Face seemed like the way to go. I’ll give you a perfect description of how I felt as I was putting this on. It reminded me of being at school, probably secondary school, and I’d just get bored and tip ex all my nails white and then continue to vandalize them by drawing on top with my biro penI can assure you my school memories were a lot more exciting than that, but this is honestly what it reminded me of. It looks like it will go chalky as you apply it but it dries lovely and smooth yet with a matte finish. One big tip, is that all of these polishes are very bright and garish, so be sure to make sure you nails are filed, clean and preferably cut down to a normal size (call me a Granny but I have no idea why these talons are in fashion at the moment) because trust me, it won’t look good otherwise. But I should give a big round of applause to Doll Face and a very warm welcome for joining my existing collection of Ciaté polishes.

Ciaté Doll House Collection

IMG_1789

I am ridiculously excited to announce that I am doing another Ciaté rundown! This one won’t cover a whole month like the last one, but will span over five days. Today is just a brief intro to what I will be reviewing. It’s called Doll’s House Collection and it’s part of the Ciaté Spring range. It consists of five matte pastel shades and forgive me but I will state the obvious and say that they are boxed up in a Dolls house hence the name of the collection.  After having tried the first one already, I can safely say that they have not disappointed and are quick drying and easy to work with. I got mine from John Lewis for £18 but you can also get them from Selfridges and the Ciaté Website. Hope you will enjoy the next five days!

Essie’s Bikini so Teeny

IMG_1624

I’m going to join in with every other beauty blogger and celebrate that spring is coming! This means bye bye dark toned clothes, nails and make up and hello pastels! My Valentines Day present off Harry was Essie’s ‘Bikini So Teeny’ which is a lovely periwinkle blue colour, which obviously I had to pick out myself and physically give to Harry to take to the till and then pretend I had no idea of it’s existence. I have heard mixed reviews about this, but overall I’m impressed. It’s been said that this polish is streaky? Personally I have no idea why people would think that. For the pastel colour that it is, it’s so pigmented and goes on so easily. I could have just applied one coat but I always do a second coat of polish to get it to last longer. However.. I do agree with the reviews stating that a top coat makes it go darker. I have no idea why this happens (anyone who knows please feel free to let me know) but in future I will steer clear of the top coat and just make sure I’ve got a couple of hours free to sit and relax, so my risk of smudge is reduced. Other than that though, this has made me feel so cheerful and summery and I’m so excited to whack out my spring jacket (probably won’t be for a while yet though!). The other colours that are part of the range are also incredible so I’m sure I’ll be spotted lingering around Douglas deciding what my next buy will be soon enough. What do you think of the new Essie collection? Yay or Nay?

Day 20, 21, 22, 23 of Ciaté Mini Mani Month

Please, Please, Please do not think I have been lazy with my blog lately, but I’m sure many of you can agree that the final few days before christmas are possibly the most hectic and chaotic days you will ever experience. Friday was basically taken up with a whole day of travelling back from Germany to England, which was so manic there were literally people crying on the floor of the train (myself included). This weekend has been spent celebrating my Mum’s 50th birthday! It’s been brilliant fun and I even got to go on a spa day which has left me feeling so relaxed before the big day. I’ll also be honest that in all of that time my upkeep of my nails has come to a halt and I have one hand covered in friday’s polish and one hand covered in saturday’s, as I intended to write this post days ago. I’ll cram everything into one today though, as I’m sure most people don’t have the time to go reading individual posts anyway!

Day 20: Ivory Queen.

image

Ciaté have got every nail polish right so far minus the nail beads but they really aren’t very good with timing. On day 18 I got ‘Amazing Gracie’ which was the most gorgeous pale pink but then 2 days later I got basically the same colour but just a bit more “ivory”. Nevertheless I still love it and it’s another nude to add to my collection. This calendar has really helped my to discover polishes I would never normally wear.

Day 21: Confetti.

image

Glitter polishes tend to be hit and miss. Some barely show up and some are just ridiculously gritty and make my teeth grind everytime I grate my nails off something. Confetti is niether of those and went over Ivory Queen like a dream. The finish was so lovely and was a surprise competitor for my favourite glitter polish so far!

Day 22: Christmas Tree Caviar.

image

Ahh Ohh they did it again. They gave me bloody nail beads. These are little more christmassy which made me willing to try them but I think these will be going off to charity. It’s a shame because even if I did like nail beads I couldn’t wear them anyway due to the mess they leave. Not for the neat freaks!

Day 23: Locket.

image

Well we’re all thinking it so I might as well say it. This looks shit. But it’s really not! It’s a glitter polish with silver pigment in it which I didn’t realise it had so I painted it over “boudoir” thinking it would look cool and christmassy, when in fact I was completely wrong and made a complete mess. As a polish on its own though it’s very unique and very pretty!

Day 19 of Ciaté Mini Mani Month

I’m afraid I have nothing to show you today as I got ‘Underwear’ which is a base coat and I think my nails deserve a rest from all the constant nail polish remover they’ve been exposed to, but I trust that it will be a very good base coat.

I thought this would be a good opportunity to say Merry Christmas to everyone and also spread some good will. We can honestly say that some point in our lives, particuarly at christmas we receive beauty products such as soap, make up or even perfume we will never even use. I have never done this myself but I have known people to just give the present away to someone else the following christmas which is always risky business. I have promised myself from now on, that any products I won’t use, as they may not suit me or my skin type, or simply not my taste will be donated to a charity that collects beauty products for women who are most in need of them. I know to some people that may not seem like a necessity but for women who may have lost their homes, left violent relationships or any circumstance that has left them vulnerable, then I can imagine a little box of luxuries would really put a smile on their face. Obviously I won’t just be donating christmas presents as I always get lovely presents off my friends and family, but I have products I know I won’t use again and would rather give them to someone who actually needs them. The charity I will be donating to is called Give and Make up which is based in London and fast becoming an established little charity. If you don’t fancy making up a box of goodies then why not just drop your products into a charity shop, as either way it will go towards a good cause.

Anyway Merry Christmas everyone and to those who haven’t started/finished their christmas shopping, I wish you the best of luck!

Day 17 and 18 of Ciaté Mini Mani Month

Confession time. I actively decided not to write a post yesterday as the polish I got was something that I would never, ever wear. It was Caviar Pearls ‘Frost Yourself’ which is nice and all, but honestly, I just don’t do nail art. There seems to be a trend of decorating your ring finger with beads or glitter and call me opinionated, boring or just miserable but I don’t understand it! It just looks half done to me. So to anyone who likes the look of it, let me know and I’ll send it your way, otherwise it will probably go to a make up charity.

image

On the other hand, I got a nail polish today that I absolutely adore. It’s called ‘Amazing Gracie’ and resembles Essie’s ‘Ballet Slippers’ which I have had my eye on for so long now. Hopefully this should tide me over for a while and satisfy my craving for ballet slippers. It took a few layers but what else would you expect with such a pale nail varnish colour. I topped it off with speed coat which has fast become an essential part of my routine. In this case, every cloud has a silver lining.
