After more than 2 weeks of wearing glitter, reds, blues and some pastels, it felt like it was time to tone it down. Lucky for me Ciaté agreed and presented me with ‘Members Only’. The picture makes it look like a gold colour when in fact its more of a pink. In short, it’s a rose gold. It’s barely noticeable but at the same time you catch an occasional glimpse of shiny pink nails. I had to apply it 3 times before I got any real colour showing through but it was completely worth it. It hasn’t even smudged amongst my evening of present wrapping, a crying baby and tidying the flat which believe me, IS an accomplishment. I’ll leave it up to the pictures to explain the rest so until tomorrow!
Pink is always a nail polish colour that I think looks nice but it’s never my first choice to buy. I’ll always go for blues, or greens or any other bright colour. I am actually really pleased I’ve got so many red and pinks in this calendar as they do make a statement and stand out and it’s meant I’ve been able to experiment with colours and what suits me. Today’s polish ‘Play date’ was an instant winner as it reminds me of my favourite MAC Lipstick ‘Impassioned’. It has a redness to it but I can still spot the hot pink in it making it quite an unusual colour. As sad as I was to take yesterday’s nail varnish off, this one has really helped to ease the pain. It was easy to apply and I could have left it at one coat but I always do 2 coats no matter what colour. I’ve topped it off with ‘Speed Coat’ and now I’ve got a lovely set of shiny nails. I’ve put on my fancy ring that my Aunt gave to me before I left England just to make myself feel that extra bit special. Might sound like a silly thing to do but it’s always nice to feel good about yourself on a christmassy sunday.
I am happy to announce that I didn’t get a pastel or mint today! As much as I love them I was craving some glitter, and I was not let down. I got ‘Party Shoes’ which reminds me of a pair of topshop sparkly shoes that I used to wear so it the name actually had some relevance to me. Today’s is an actual glitter polish so I had to be creative as it is well known that glitter polishes require a lot of time and patience unless you are actually going for a really sheer look. I decided to try something different and went for Essie’s ‘Mink Muffs’ which is a lovely mocha colour and layer up the glitter on top. I feel quite happy with the results as the glitter went on quite easily and has a lovely shine to it which is normally quite hard to achieve with other polishes. I think I deserve a big pat on the back for my masterpiece!
If you’re looking at the picture and thinking that’s the same polish as yesterday, don’t worry I thought the same thing when I opened the window on my calendar. I don’t know what possessed Ciaté to put two similar colours on consecutive days but luckily for them today’s colour was so nice I’ll forgive them. Today’s colour is called ‘Ferris Wheel’ and its a much more pale mint than yesterday. In fact I think I prefer it! It was a bit tricky to apply again but I’m going to put that down to me because I am pretty useless when it comes to painting my nails. Apart from that I have no complaints! It’s a paler, more icy colour which makes it more suitable for christmas and it looks a bit more sophisticated than Pepperminty. All I can advise is to make sure you have some time before painting your nails. It’s one of those one’s you just have to keep layering up so don’t go waving your hands about soon after. I’ll leave it there for today so Happy Friday 13th!
Today Ciaté decided to shake things up and throw another pastel into the mix by adding ‘Pepperminty’ to the calendar. Although my collection is full of mint greens and blues I was more than thrilled to add another mint into the mix because frankly you can never had enough. I seem to remember squeeling when I opened the window, leaving Harry quite startled which goes to show how much I love this colour. If I had to criticise it I would only say that it was very, very sheer which meant a lot of layering causing gloopy nails but once it dries nobody would ever know. This is more of a polish I would wear in the spring or summer but nevertheless it was a perfect little present for the 12th December. Thank you Ciaté!
Jingle all the way! I was so pleased to get another pot of glitter! Today’s is Jingle belle and it gives you the most christmassy nails I have ever seen. It’s a red glitter with green and gold tones in it. For me the main colours of christmas are red, green and gold so I think that they have got it bang on here. I painted my nails with boudoir and then lightly sprinkled the glitter over the top. I waited for a few minutes to wash my hands but when I did barely any glitter came off and my nails look nice and neat. It’s a messy job and at times emotional (it was in my case when I accidentally put the boudoir nail polish brush into the tub of glitter without realising.. boudoir is now ruined.) but it was completely worth it. I am nearly half way through my Ciaté calendar now and I can honestly say I will be a lost woman without it. Hope you’ve all enjoyed my posts so far!
I have decided to incorporate today’s polish and yesterday’s polish into one post. I couldn’t put a post up last night due to an exam I had today so I had to fill up my day with procrastination and short bursts of revision. However I was very excited to take off sundays polish ‘Kiss Chase’ and replace it with ‘Pillow Fight’. Pillow Fight is a bit of a contrast to Kiss Chase as I went from having bright pink nails to a murky lilac colour. It’s a very similar colour to YSL’s Gris Underground but it hasn’t quite got the blueish tones to it. Feeling tired from my long day at univeristy and my exam, it’s been quite nice painting my nails with such a relaxed colour and to cosy up inside.
I went over the top of Pillow Fight with ‘Speed Coat’ which is my first ever top coat! I’ve always been quite lazy when it comes to my nails so I was curious to see what difference a top coat makes. This top coat really does live up to its name and reputation as I was able to go and rip a cardboard box open (only a small box but it’s still fidgety work!) within minutes of painting my nails without the slightest smudge! As it’s a clear polish I am also convinced that Ciaté have put more in this bottle that they have in the others as it’s full to the brim whereas I can tell the other bottles aren’t. I feel like I’ve added an essential item to my beauty routine today. Thank you Ciaté!
From Manchester to Osnabrück! This weekend a couple of my friends from Manchester have paid me a visit and obviously means a night out on the town is in order. I was praying that I would get a glitzy nail polish so I wouldn’t have to paint my nails twice in one day. My prayers were answered and I was given ‘Fit For A Queen’. Its a silver metallic polish which made me feel a bit like wolverine at first but once I was used to them I came round to having metal-like nails. I will be honest with you and say that I did put a Lancôme christmas nail varnish over the top of it in a department store so I have mattified my nails just to make them a little more interesting. I can assure you the original nails were exactly the same just with a bit of shine to them!
I’m keeping this post short and sweet as I’ve got a mountain of work to do and not nearly enough time hence why this post has gone up a few hours later than normal. Today’s polish was called encore! Which is quite relevant as I will be using it encore! When I put it on, I thought that this colour would have been perfect a couple of months ago when it was fall/autumn in Germany as it reminded me of all the colours you see when leaves start to fall. The colour can only be described as a brick red and it conveniently went with my jumper that I put on today! Despite the fact I had to get on and do some jobs as soon as I’d painted my nails, they have remained relatively smudge free and shiny.
So to sum it up I’ve had 3 reds and 2 glitter polishes for my first 5 days so I’m predicting something completely different for tomorrow such as a purple or a blue. Watch this Space!
So today was an absolute corker! Rather than a nail varnish I got a pot of glitter called Sequin Miss Mistletoe and it really does sum up the Christmas season. Its a combination of red, orange, gold and peach sequins and you simply pour them onto wet nails. You can choose any nail polish to go underneath, but I thought the glitter was so lovely itself, that I kept it fairly neutral and used Rimmel Salon Pro Reggae Splash. I have only painted my thumb today as this glitter is so special that I wanted to keep it for any upcoming christmas parties or even New Year’s Eve. Can’t wait to see what’s in tomorrow’s window!
